Every year for our anniversary we go on a little jaunt somewhere interesting. On our anniversary trip there is an absolutely no work rule. Fortunately Mr. Trent’s music activities take us on all the other adventures you see me rambling about-but this trip is no work-so no music shenanigans! Well this year life has been a bit overwhelming and we have a bit less time and less money to spend on our travels. That being said we decided on Hocking Hills State Park. We took the van- I am finally becoming adjusted to our new way of traveling. It is smaller than the RV but has most of the comforts a person would need –just a bit more challenging.
So off we set on this adventure and what an adventure it was. I had no idea we had such a spectacular feat of nature in our state-Ohio is beautiful and has many things to see –but this all took my breath away a bit, figuratively and literally with all the climbing we did. The weather was a bit dreary.
After a very busy beginning to our week off we finally had everything in the van and off we went. We decided to camp at Hocking Hills State Park Camp Ground. We found a wonderful spot close to all the amenities and some trails. The staff where we checked in were fantastic –very helpful and patient with us. It was our official anniversary at this point so after a nice hike we decided to go out to dinner. Dinner was good but a bit disappointing-we tend to consistently have a disappointing meal on our anniversary. It is funny that this happens and we have gotten to the point that we laugh about it now. We decided to have some smores for dessert, and while the fire I build was pretty cozy the smores were also unfortunately sub par. Alas time to curl up on our little bed and get ready for a really big day of hiking.
Day two took us to Old Man’s Cave and to Rock House Cave. I have to say wow, wow, wow! Holy Cow! We had a lot of fun climbing on all those beautiful rocks! It was during the week -the first day of October- so the park wasn’t too busy. It was fun and great exercise. I love that the older we get the more active our little adventures are becoming.
The nights were a bit chilly but we had the van to snuggle in and it was quite cozy. I was in charge of all the fire starting and cooking and Mr. Trent was in charge of the reading and relaxing while at the fire. Don’t think he has it all easy-he is also in charge of emptying the camping toilet. I figure this is a pretty fair deal I get to clean the dishes and he gets the crapper.
I have to say almost everything about this trip was wonderful and we can’t wait for our next trip down to Hocking Hills. We had many moe adventures on this trip-that will be for another week.
