From Ham to Tobacco History

At the beginning of our return trip from Richmond, Virginia. In February of 2012 we stopped by to visit Maria and our Grandson,  our son-in-law was at work so it was just the four of us.  We spent a little time in Smithfield, Virginia.  We visited a beautiful park there Windsor Castle Park.  The park is pretty spectacular and quite large,  with nice walking paths and interesting structures.  We had lunch in Smithfield with them-Smithfield is known as the ham capitol of the world.  They have a great museum there.  I will have to do some ramblings just on Smithfield another time.

We left there to continue on home meandering and stretching our legs a lot since I had a pretty bad fall a few days before this trip and had a pretty uncomfortable pelvis with a hairline fracture –so pain medicine and a lot of breaks in the trip were helpful.

Another of our stops was the Durham, North Carolina Tobacco Historic District.  This area caught my eye with it’s impressive Lucky Strike smoke stack and water tower.  The factory was remodeled with different shops all around it.  I was disappointed the light wasn’t better this trip, but we all know weather is weather –at least those of us from Ohio know how that is.  I definitely want to get back to this area.   We had very little time to spend at any one place on this trip.  That being said I think at some point we need to head down to Durham with hopefully warmer weather, better health and better light.

I could say photographer, but I am a collector of minutes in time, visual memories.
